what is sports podiatry ?

Sports podiatry is the treatment of foot, ankle, leg and knee injuries by altering lower limb function using a variety of methods, including insoles, footwear and exercises.

A sports podiatrist will analyse the way an individuals foot strikes the ground and evaluate the chain of motion of the major joints in the leg from the ground up.

By analysing the way that you walk and run the sports podiatrist will evaluate whether or not there are any mechanical reasons that may be contributing to your injury. For more detailed information click on the what is sports podiatry ? link.

what is a podiatrist?

The term Podiatrist originates from the Greek, 'Podos - Iatros' - meaning Foot Physician

Sports podiatrists are specialists in diagnosis and treatment of foot and ankle problems, however, due to the foots unique interaction with the lower limb, podiatrists are often involved in the treatment of injuries affecting the lower back, hips, knees and shins.

Maintaining correct alignment within the lower limb is important to limit stress,  and to maintain good posture. Any problems with the position of our feet during stance are exaggerated during walking and further increased during weight bearing athletic activity. Therefore even minor abnormalities in alignment may result in severe lower limb problems.
